The Rose Carol
03:27
|
|||
One sweet springtime evening a star came to earth
And o’er many hours the globe it traversed
‘Til nigh in a field it stopped for it saw
A rose with no equal, a rose with no flaw
No fairer, no purer was any such flower
The star wandered closer to lighten her bower
Said, “Greetings, O fair one, and favour on thee,
For glad be the day that your beauty I see
“For by thee the cosmos is most surely blessed
So of thee I humbly do make this request:
That with our Creator thou might enter in
To covenant for every blessing to win.”
That rose was perplexed and most sorely afraid
For how could she so great a covenant make
The star said, “O fear not, our Lord chooses well,
With all grace in heaven thy body shall swell.”
And so with great joy she exclaimed, “Here I am!
So may it be with me as you so command.”
And then sweetly singing the star she embraced
With ecstatic gladness she burst into flame
But see like the bush burning long years ago
Her blossoms and branches remained unconsumed
And so should we all with her faith and her trust
Be open to glory, clothe stars with our dust

Mirum est, o, non intellego
Te amo quam vivere sed tuum cor est stella
Mirum est, non possum te capiunt
Tu autem in venas meam, et procul velum luna
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Aquae in deserto, can’t figure you out
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Sine te nihil sum, let me fall into you
Mirum est, risus vester provocans
O, clam, noctu, spiritus tuus est in aure meum
Mirum est, huius frigida flamma
Mihi feri maris, prope ipsum me
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Aquae in deserto, cor meum plenum vinum
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Sine te nihil sum, let me fall into you
Mirum est, dulce tactus tuum
O, amor tenera, ardenti ferox corde
Mirum est, quare curat de me
Pauper ego sum, et sed vos amat.
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Aquae in deserto, can’t figure you out
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Sine te nihil sum, let me fall into you
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Aquae in deserto, cor meum plenum vinum
Making no sense, like a rose in December
Sine te nihil sum, let me fall into you
Mirum est, ignis sub oceanam
Fulgur de caelo sereno
God you’re so strange

The Water Anthem
05:21
|
|||
The water has a voice
Kick off your shoes, step into the water
Better do it fast, ‘cause it’s getting hotter
Where will they climb, all my great-granddaughters
Gotta get high to escape the slime but
Cedars are falling for our convenience
And who among us deserves their healing
Telling you now, Lord, it ain’t that many
But still the Tsleil-Waututh, they keep singing
They ain’t got time for my white tears
And we ain’t got time for my white fear
The hour has come and the hour is gone
But I can still choose to join in the song
‘Cause the water has a voice
Burning the barrels may keep us warm and
Cuffing the hordes may feel kind of glorious
Drag us to court, draw the sword, we’re a torrent
There is a higher law, there’s a chorus
Hear it arise from the bear and orca
Follow the whispers along the Sto:lo
Learn to be humble, learn to be cradled
Learn from your elders, learn to be thankful
They ain’t got time for you to hesitate
There ain’t no time, Lord, there ain’t no rain
The hour has come and the hour is gone
But you can still choose to join in the song
‘Cause the water has a voice
Get on board, you can get on board
We need your voice, yeah, we need your voice
Need your voice for the wind and salmon
Need your voice for the sky and mountain
Let the Creator make of you a watch tower
All together, we’re a Kwekwecnewtxw
Need your voice for the wind and salmon
Need your voice for the sky and mountain
Let the Creator make of you a watch tower
All together, we’re a Kwekwecnewtxw
Get on board, you can get on board
Don’t you wanna be on the right side
Don’t you want your children to feel pride
The hour has come and the hour is gone
But we can still choose to join in the song
‘Cause the water has a voice

Ten Bridesmaids
04:33
|
|||
Who are these like stars appearing
Rainbow-robed and fresh as dew
Cygnet fingers gripping lanterns
Softly gleaming in the moon
To the banquet we’re a’walking
Step by step we’ll light the way
Singing songs of expectation
We are all the bride bouquet
Ten sisters all together
Ten bridesmaids sunrise new
Ten wafers all unleavened
Can you tell the wise from fools
Every lantern has a limit
Every summer ends with frost
Every end has a beginning
Even bloodhounds may be lost
(The oil is running out, the dusk is bleeding out)
Ten sisters all together
Ten bridesmaids bold as brass
Ten stars drop down from heaven
Who is diamond, who is glass
Ten sisters all together
Ten bridesmaids fall asleep
Ten trumpets midnight sever
Wedding bells bring no relief
Our lamps are going out x2
We’re lost among the crowd
No merchants to be found
Five bridesmaids in the alley
Lamps dry and eyes are wet
Five bridesmaids cloth’d in ivy
Strangers to the wedding guests
Five wise maids at a banquet
Five wineskins full of wine
Five loaves of bread come tumbling
Out the window in the night
Five little lights
Five past midnight
Five fireflies
Five long goodbyes
Good night

Jonah

When did you start calling prophets?
What did you think when my name came up in your lots?
‘Cause after all this time I’d think you might have grown a backbone
You think I never noticed that your property is always to have kindness?
I can’t believe you won’t pick up that rainbow
There’s no escaping from your cruelty
And the way you look at me
I can’t believe you’re going to let this lie
Why won’t you let me be?
No bottom to your mercy
No end to every second chance you’d give
It don’t make sense, why won’t you stop it?
Who are you to say who deserves you?
Who are you to choose to save entire nations of transgressors?
While we were reaching out and screaming were you just too busy?
I swear as I was drowning if I’d listened hard I could have heard you giggling
I will not speak, I will not do your bidding
You couldn’t let me be a sword; I had to be a key
There’s no escaping from your cruelty
And the way you set wolves free
I can’t believe you’re going to save this town
How can I make you see?
If Sodom had ten righteous men
It would be yours but this has none of that
It don’t make sense, why won’t you stop it?
It’s so dark in here
I’m singing out my fear
And you are here with me still
Okay, okay, I give
It’s so dark in here
And you’re saving me again
And your love is deeper than the sea
What is your problem, ugh!
No escaping from your mercy
And the way you look at them
I can’t believe I’m going to say your lines
What was I thinking?
There’s no end to this mercy
Your arms are wide enough for wolves and sheep
It don’t make sense but I can’t stop it
Okay, I did your will, so let me go now
I’ve got a lot to ponder on my way home
